Personal Power and the Power of Habit

“All the power that we exercise over others depends on the power we exercise over ourselves.”

PERSONAL POWER

Personal power is more of an attitude or state of mind than an attempt to maneuver or control others. We’re not talking about telling you to go on a power trip and be the annoying, egotistical friend! Personal power is based on competence, vision, positive personal qualities, and service. When externalized, it is likely to be more generous, creative, and humane than other forms of power.

According to Psychology Today, this type of power represents a movement toward self-realization. You become more aware of yourself and recognize what you do well and what you can improve on, and it is this understanding of self that helps us become better human beings. We believe everyone has superpowers. It’s a part of what makes you uniquely special. When you put your superpowers to use, you become passionate about what you do and how you show up and get closer to your purpose. We believe you can tap into your personal power by locating the power of habit.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

What are your superpowers?

In this video, Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, shares that "the key to changing habits is to understand how they work. If you can diagnose the habit, you can change it in any way you like."

What habit do you want to change? The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, raising exceptional children, becoming more productive, building revolutionary companies and social movements, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. If we can diagnose your habits, we can change them! Habits aren't destiny. By harnessing the new science of habit, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.
